Part-Time Employees

  • Cindy and Kimberly (Sammy) Funez (sisters) are our two young, part-time employees. They are bi-lingual and can help with translations when needed.
  • Cindy is always there with a smile and more than willing to help those who ask.  She is a Jordan Matthews 2021 graduate and almost finished with classes at CCCC.
  • Sammy is our newest hire and a rising senior at Jordan Matthews HS.

Full-Time Employee

  • Matthew Downey is our full-time manager and also provides personal training. He has an online presence as well with Downey’s Dungeon Nutrition and Training. As a 4 year Marine, 4 yr graduate of UNCW in communications and a physique competitor; he is well disciplined, certified, and knowledgeable in personal fitness and nutrition.


  • All employees are avid fitness enthusiasts and can help with basic work-outs and lifting suggestions.

Owner Spotlight

  • Meet your owners; Melanie and John Downey, of Silk Hope/Siler City.
  • Moving here in 2017 from Apex where they resided between 2001 to 2017.  Both have been a part of many gym and fitness centers while living in Indianapolis, Maryland (DC area), and originally from PA.
  • John traveled for his previous employer, Cisco Systems, for 23 yrs and made it a point to workout in as many places as possible.  Both have been in the fitness industry as competitors, judges, trainers, and enthusiasts for over 30 yrs.
  • The opportunity presented itself to purchase Triangle Fitness of Siler City in early 2021 and after months of due diligence they took ownership on May 20, 2021.
  • Being involved in the fitness industry and a part of Triangle Fitness since 2017 gave them the perspective of the business and what members liked, would like to see, and what changes we could implement to make it better; hours, space, equipment, supplements, trainers, etc.

An indoor stationary cycling class that combines basic cycling movements with motivational coaching, breathing awareness, and heart rate training. This non-impact, individually paced, cardio class will definitely move you! Spinning classes provide an intense cardio workout while still catering to participants of all fitness levels. Core work is incorporated in the form of planks and other options. Our instructor will lead you through a challenging series of courses to maximize your caloric burn. The best part is that you control your own resistance and speed allowing you to continuously progress forward from your current fitness level. (45 minutes). Taught by Buddy Wilson who also incorporates some core work in the form of planks. Some morning and night classes.

Step & Cardio

Done to upbeat music, step aerobics is a form of aerobic power distinguished from other types of aerobic exercise by its use of an elevated platform (the step). The height can be tailored to individual needs by inserting risers under the step. Taught by Joaquin Rangel around 5:15/5:30 pm, 4 times per week. Step aerobics helps burn calories and fat. It also helps to reduce stress, promote restful sleep, strengthen muscles and gives the body a more streamlined appearance. The number of calories burned depends on the speed of movements, step height, and length of exercise. Step aerobics is suitable for all ages. (60 minutes). The Cardio class is at 8 am on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays taught by Sabra Murrow, at least till she gives birth 🙂

Silver Sneakers

Silver Sneakers Class focuses on strengthening muscles and increasing range of motion for daily life activities. Taught by Melanie Downey, Joaquin Rangel, and Joan Fuquay. Participants will use hand-held weights (weights based on what you can hold), elastic bands with handles and a Silver Sneakers ball. Although tailored toward senior citizens, all ages are welcome to participate. 9:00 am on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Amy also provides "Chair Yoga" as a Silver Sneakers offering every Friday at 10 am.

HIIT Bootcamps (HIIT = High Intensity Interval Training)

Every Wednesday at 7:00 am, sometimes outside. We also offer bootcamps every Saturday around 7:30 am. Some Saturdays we offer the opportunity to run "The Murph"; subject to change because of temperature, weather and other commitments. Bootcamp sessions typically last 30 minutes, but would translate to over an hour of most people's typical workouts. Great for aerobic capacity, cardio/heart health along with functional strength. Taught by Matthew Downey. Matthew also teaches the Kettlebell class Tuesday mornings at 7 am and John teaches the Ab/Core class Thursday mornings at 7 am.

We are pleased to offer four tanning beds - Two high intensity and two medium intensity. You do not have to be a member of Triangle Fitness to purchase tanning packages. Call for details on offered packages.
